It was a great conversation and was followed by a round of questions that had direct relevance to Norfolk Island.

Read below for more about Charlie and his background.

Charlie is an internationally renowned Regenerative Agriculture spokesperson and will be featured on Australian Story in September

Charlie talks about the “next big thing” in worldwide trends in agriculture and how local farmers can tap into this and get a jump on the rising market trends.

Massy gained a Bachelor of Science (Zoology, Human Ecology) at ANU (1976), before going farming for over 40 years. This included the development of a prominent Merino sheep stud business. Concern at ongoing land degradation and humanity’s sustainability challenge led him to return to ANU in 2009 to undertake a PhD in Human Ecology, which was completed in 2013. This examined transformation in regenerative agriculture and farmers’ paradigm change.

In 2017 he published the best-selling Call of the Reed Warbler: A New Agriculture, A New Earth. This book has become a talisman for the regenerative agriculture movement, and has won and been short-listed for a number of literary awards.

As well as still managing a sheep and cattle grazing property, Massy still consults widely in the fields of Merino breeding, transformative change in agriculture, and in landscape design, and is constantly on the lecture circuit spreading the word on regenerative agriculture and its promise of solutions for humanity addressing our Anthropocene challenge.
