Ignite Norfolk Island 2019 Featured Speaker: Scott Pearse
Ignite Norfolk Island 2019 is an exciting and inspirational upcoming 3-day event presented by Regional Development Australia Norfolk Island. The event is scheduled to run from 19 – 21 November and will include engaging workshops, inspirational speakers, networking events and a pitch fest to celebrate the success of the recently completed tourism incubator.
In our second interview of presenters and mentors that will be attending Ignite Norfolk Island 2019 we are featuring Scott Pearse.
Scott Pearse is the founder of the Seal Rocks Adventure Festival and sits on the board of directors for adventure travel company The Wayfaring Band. Scott uses events and travel to connect communities, people and places to each other.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up on the Bellarine Peninsula in Victoria, across the road was a horse paddock that is now filled as far as the eye can see with the tile roofs of new houses.
Given the choice between living in the city or country which would you choose and why?
I live in the country surrounded by trees and water, so my preference is clear. But I love the city and spend as much time as I can in the vibrancy, fast-pace and diversity it offers. It’s the counter-balance to my quiet, content country life.
Describe your area of expertise?
Through my experiences living in different cultures and meeting people where they are, my expertise is in navigating difference. Those differences can be as obvious as a physical disability or lack of shared language, or as subtle as a difference of opinion. Our differences are the things that make us unique and they should never be a barrier to connection.
What would like to have changed in your world in five years from now?
Create access to independent adventure travel. The man I’ve become is shaped by years of travel and putting myself in strange situations, I’d like to share that experience with everyone.
What is the greatest hurdle you have had to overcome in your career and how did you do it?
Be comfortable defining my work outside the confines of “Having a career”. I measure the success of my life by self-contentment and the growth and happiness of those around me.
If you could solve one problem or issue what would it be?
To expose more people to all the ways we share common ground.
What advice would you give your younger self?
Go easy on yourself, you’re cuter than you think.
If you could have dinner with anyone, who would it be and why?
If you’re paying, I’ll take my wife and mum out for a fancy dinner.
Best advice you have been given?
Pulling dumb stunts will sure keep a guy humble.
What are you looking forward to most about attending Ignite Norfolk Island?
Learning from the experience of the people of Norfolk Island
Thanks Scott we look forward to seeing you at Ignite Norfolk Island 2019.
It is going to be an amazing event and not to be missed, don’t forget to mark it in your diaries.
