Ignite Norfolk Island 2019 Featured Speaker: Tanya Watts

Ignite Norfolk Island 2019 is an exciting and inspirational upcoming 3-day event presented by Regional Development Australia Norfolk Island. The event is scheduled to run from 19 – 21 November and will include engaging workshops, inspirational speakers, networking events and a pitch fest to celebrate the success of the recently completed tourism incubator.

In our fourth and final interview of presenters and mentors that will be attending Ignite Norfolk Island 2019 we present Tanya Watts.

Where did you grow up?

Coffs Harbour, NSW Mid North Coast, my Mum & Dad still live in the same house!

Given the choice between living in the city or country which would you choose and why?

Definitely the country! Living in a regional area gives me the best of both worlds! The reasons why are endless – do we have all day? Seriously, I love being surrounded by nature and natural landscapes, along with the easy access to the beaches, rainforest & hinterland.

Describe your area of expertise?

My area of expertise is wide and varied & has been developed over a lifetime. First & foremost I am a people person. I like to be happy, make other people happy, build relationships, grow businesses, solve problems, develop systems, provided superior experiences, collaborate, promote regions & products and finally I am a numbers nerd!

What would you like to have changed in your world in five years from now?

Work life balance, to allow me to spend more time enjoying hobbies and spending quality time with my partner, family and friends.

What is the greatest hurdle you have had to overcome in your career and how did you do it? I don’t think there have been any great hurdles as such. For 20 years I held accounting & finance related roles in both the public and private sector. This give me the opportunity to work in many different industries along with working in the UK for the Marriott Hotel Group, where my love of Hotels and the accommodation industry was born.

Leaving my beloved Kirra beach lifestyle to move to London while the Terror attacks were happening in the UK was probably the biggest hurdle I have faced.

If you could solve one problem or issue what would it be?

The one problem I would like solved is a cure for spinal cord injury.

What advice would you give your younger self?

My younger self lived a full & vibrant life, so I don’t really have an advice. Maybe drink more water after a big night!!

If you could have dinner with anyone, who would it be and why?

Dan Millman – the author of Way of the Peaceful Warrior. The book influenced me a great deal in my twenties!

Best advice you have been given?

Those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.

What are you looking forward to most about attending Ignite Norfolk Island 2019?

Meeting the locals, working with the incubator participants, experiencing island life and looking at ways that we can collaborate into the future!
