Norfolk Island Tourism Incubator + Ignite Norfolk Island 2019

Ferny Lane Theatre hosted the pitchfest event for the successful participants of the Regional Development Australia Norfolk Island Tourism Incubator and the culmination of Ignite Norfolk Island.

Eight participants graduated from the incubator and delivered inspired speeches and presentations describing their business idea’s and future plans. The pitches included businesses focused on guided tours, wellbeing, retail and products unique to Norfolk Island.

The incubator participants were also showcased in an entertaining short film created by NI local Ben Richards and it can be viewed by clicking here

“It was a privilege to work with the Norfolk Island Tourism Incubator participants to witness their growth throughout the program” said Kerry Grace, Director of Regional Development Australia Mid North Coast and Norfolk Island.

The incubator which was organised by RDA Norfolk Island delivered eight workshops for participants and eight public workshops throughout the year. Key outcomes of the programme have included business collaboration and strengthening of connections between all of those that took part in the initiative.

Mentors and speakers from different industries and backgrounds shared their knowledge and expertise during the year in several public workshops that were both inspiring and engaging. Topics included branding, customer service and tourism opportunities.

The incubator was supported by 15 mentors and as a result on island mentoring networks are beginning to form from the engagement and connections that the programme encouraged.

All of the mentors have plans to return with friends or family and are busy spreading the word about Norfolk Island within their respective networks.

A survey conducted at the conclusion of the incubator indicated that participants found value in such things as understanding funding, grant writing and ways to market their business ideas.

After the success of this year’s incubator, RDA Norfolk Island will run another in 2020 with the focus on Agribusiness.

As part of this initiative RDA Norfolk Island plan to join the showcase of local producers at the 2020 food festival and work towards a Norfolk Island food brand.

RDA Norfolk Island would like to thank Eric Hutchinson, Administrator of Norfolk Island for his support of the Tourism Incubator.

Also, Elise McCaskie for all of her hard work organising the event and assistance throughout 2019.

During the week of the Ignite Norfolk Island event, Scott Pearse, Donna Carrier and Tanya Watts all shared their knowledge and wisdom in several talks and workshops and RDA Norfolk Island would like to thank them for their time and support.

Congratulations to all the successful participants and everyone who was involved in Ignite Norfolk Island and we look forward to seeing these ideas evolve into inspiring and successful businesses.

Further information will be available soon about the Norfolk Island Agribusiness Incubator which will run on island from February 2020.
